North Sky Sponsors the US SIF Foundation’s Biennial Report on US Sustainable Investing Trends, Released December 13
Minneapolis, MN – North Sky Capital (“North Sky”), a pioneer in impact investing, is pleased to be the lead sponsor of the most comprehensive report on sustainable investing in the United States—the US SIF Foundation’s biennial Report on US Sustainable Investing Trends. The recently released biennial Trends report provides comprehensive data on US asset managers and institutional investors using one or more sustainable investment strategies. It also distills the range of significant environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that investors consider.
First conducted in 1995 when sustainable investment assets totaled $639 billion, the 2022 Report identified $8.4 trillion in total US sustainable investment assets under management using a modified methodology. It also provides important context on regulatory and other developments that will impact the sustainable investment industry for years to come.
Highlights:
- The Trends report identified $8.4 trillion in total US-domiciled assets under management (AUM) using sustainable investing strategies as of the beginning of 2022. This is 13 percent – or 1 in 8 dollars – of the total US assets under professional management.
- Both money managers and institutional investors cited carbon emissions as the top issue addressed in ESG incorporation.
- From 2020 through the first half of 2022, 154 institutional investors and 70 investment managers controlling $3 trillion in AUM led or co-led shareholder resolutions on ESG issues. The leading issue raised was on ensuring fair workplace practices, and particularly on ending de facto discrimination based on ethnicity and sex.
- Community investing experienced rapid growth, with AUM increasing 72 percent to $458 billion over the past two years and increasing more than 600 percent over the last decade.
“As innovators in the impact investment marketplace, it is gratifying to be a part of the growing evolution and maturation of sustainable investing in the United States,” said North Sky Capital Managing Director and Head of Investor Relations Gretchen Postula. “We’re proud to continue supporting US SIF and its 2022 Trends Report and the Foundation’s mission to advance sustainable investing across all asset classes.”
